Break the School to Prison Pipeline

The NOAH Education Task Force’s Social Emotional Learning (SEL) committee is laser-focused on robust and secure implementation of SEL strategies in all of our schools. Why? Statistics show that Black and Brown children are suspended three times as much as their White peers. Studies clearly demonstrate the relationship between suspension and involvement in the criminal justice system. AND - we know that with SEL and Restorative Practices, suspensions are not necessary. Additionally, in schools with robust SEL programs (Advocacy Centers, Success Coaches), as suspensions drop, academic achievement goes up.  It is time we got it right!
